This year marks the release of the 2010 American Platinum Eagle, which is the second in a the six year series, that explores American democracy and it's core concepts as they are stated in the Preamble to the Constitution of the US. The first release last year, which was the one ounce 2009 Proof Platinum Eagle, was put out for sale on December 3, 2009 and proceeded to sell out in one week.

The packaging of this platinum coin was in the middle of a tri-fold binder, and set up to display one side with the narrative by Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. and then the opposite side holding the specifications of the coin and its certificate of authenticity.

This year's 2010 Platinum Eagle reverse design will display the words of the principle, "To Establish Justice," as inspired by the Chief Justice of The United States, John G. Roberts, Jr. Featured on the obverse design is a rendition designed by John Mercanti of the Statue of Liberty which has always been used on all of the American Platinum Eagle coins issued since it first came out in 1997.

The Commission of Fine Arts (CFA), and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) have been provided with nine individual reverse design candidates by the United States Mint. Of these nine candidates, six of them show the relief of Justice, blindfolded and holding up scales, with some surrounded by people or allegorical symbols. Yet another one of the designs shows the torch held by the Statue of Liberty. The last two final designs have the Supreme Court Building's pediment, including the figures of Order, Liberty, and Authority, as well as the west front doors of the building with the panels that depict the development of the law.

There are groups that reviewed all of the design candidates in various separate meetings that were held in late March, and the recommendation from the CFA was the design showing the symbolic torch. There was a one recommendation by the CFA that the text across the torch ("Justice the Guardian of Liberty") be restudied and the possibility be considered to move it to flank the central image. The design that features a blindfolded Justice who's holding a laurel branch and the scales was support by CCAC. They also offered a few recommendation for revisions to individual aspects of the design, and ended up unanimously recommending Justice should be holding the scale by the loop that's above the beam to have the depiction be mechanically correct.

It is no wonder that some special coins are so popular with collectors around the world. In fact, the number of people who are interested in the collection of coins is astonishingly high. The attraction increases when it is a special series like the American platinum eagle coins. You may wonder what differences are there from other popular special coins like the American Silver Eagle coin and the special gold coins.

There the specialty is that on every change each year, the design features an entirely new look. On the reverse or back side, there is a bald eagle with different regions of America. The obverse side or front side of the coin features the powerful and striking image of the "Lady Liberty" as she is looking into the future, which symbolizes vigilance, faithfulness to duty, and the spirit and character of Americans. This marvelous creation on these rare coins was designed and engraved by famous sculptor and engraver John M. Mercanti.

These astonishing rare coins bear the inscription "Liberty" and the mottos, "In God We Trust", and "E Pluribus Unum", which are also on the obverse along with their date of issue. Within the curve located at the bottom of these coins you will find the face value and the West Point "W" mint mark, which is also found on the obverse.

On the reverse side of these rare coins, the design features a bald eagle soaring across a setting sun within different regions of America, which changes each year with the release of that year's coins. Watching over our firm foundation of democracy is the bald eagle, the nation's symbol of power, courage, and freedom, which was shown in different designs between the years of 1998 and 2002 known as the "Vistas of Liberty" series.

The American Silver Eagle coins were released on 24 November 1986. One major peculiarity of the silver coin is that silver eagle coin is offered in only one denomination. That is the one ounce size. The face value is $1 and its diameter is 1.598 inches.

These rare coins were given a face value of $1 to protect it from existing counterfeiting laws and this value was low enough to ensure they would never actually circulate in the money market. The small face value also holds sentimental appeal to those who remember the circulating silver dollars of long ago.

The American Silver Eagle Coins are also known as American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. They are true collectibles as the weight, content, and purity are guaranteed by the United States government.

Gold coins, minted in the United States and Europe, are becoming the choice collectible coins in the world. It is particularly so in the case of coins minted before 1933. Every day the media comes to you with the attractions of the bullion. That is reported to be the best way to offset risk, and to combat inflation.

Another advantage of the gold coins is that they are historically important and artistically beautiful. Often they are regarded as perfect works of art. Some peculiar gold coins are the $20 gold Double Eagle, first minted in 1907, and featuring an impressive image of Liberty striding gloriously out of dawn.

So the world of special coins is out there beckoning you to its several attractions.

Platinum coins are an old form of money. Platinum is internationally recognized as a form of currency under ISO 4217. Platinum bullion coins include the American Platinum Eagle and the Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf.

The first platinum coins issued in Russia in 1828 were three-ruble pieces, followed by five-ruble pieces in 1829, and twelve-ruble pieces in 1830. It was not until the 1970s that any more platinum coins were issued. The first country to issue them was Israel, in 1973; the next country was Panama, in 1976. Russia (USSR) reinstates the issue of platinum coins from 1977 to 1961, with a number of one hundred- and fifty-ruble coins containing about a half ounce of platinum apiece.

Russia has issued platinum coins since 1992, in denominations of 25 rubles, containing a tenth of an ounce of platinum, and 50 and 150 rubles, containing a half ounce. In the year 1981, Lesotho issued two hundred and fifty platinum Maloti coins that contain a half-ounce of platinum.

The American Eagle platinum coin is fashionable and is admired by investors and collectors who find the coin's beauty to be mesmerizing. All these coins have a U.S. dollar face value stamped on them, validating and confirming them as official U.S. tender. A one-ounce platinum coin has the highest face value -a hundred dollars- ever to appear on a U.S. coin. The amount of platinum in these coins determines their value and not the face value itself.

Platinum is priced according to the current market "spot price" as well as the premium per coin. The spot price of platinum (and all precious metals) is reported every business day by all major newspapers, television networks, by radio, and online. Platinum coin prices differ according to the purity and grade of the metal. The prices of these coins range from a $100 to $1000.

The Internet is a good source for finding the right type of coin, and Eagle is one of the companies that cater to this need by providing quality products to their customers. Coin collectors may find it very easy to sell their coin investments online.

The American Platinum Eagle Coins

The United States government first issued the American Platinum Eagle Coins in 1997, which was more than a decade after initial production of the Gold and Silver American Eagles. These unique coins quickly became the number one platinum bullion coin in the world and the designs featured are entirely new.

Uncirculated American Platinum Eagle coins are all struck at the United States West Point Mint in New York. Although normally none of the uncirculated pieces carry mintmarks there was an exception that occurred in 1999 when the one-tenth ounce and quarter ounce proof dies bearing the 'W' mint mark were prepared by mistake. These 1999-W uncirculated coins are extremely scarce and avid collectors have them at the top of their want lists.

Each American Platinum Eagle coin is guaranteed to contain the exact quantity of platinum stamped on the coin and they meet the rigid quality standards set by the United States Mint. They maintain a unique advantage over all other platinum bullion coins simply because the United States government guarantees their content, weight, and purity. Platinum has become one of the scarcest precious metals in the world, in fact one out of every five consumer products either contains platinum or is produced using platinum.

The obverse side features the powerful and striking image of "Lady Liberty" looking off into the future symbolizing vigilance, faithfulness to duty, and the American spirit and character. It was designed and engraved by United States Mint sculptor and engraver John M. Mercanti, who also designed the reverse side of the American Silver Eagle Coin. This astonishing coin bears the inscription "Liberty" and the mottoes, "In God We Trust" and "E Pluribus Unum" also on the obverse along with the date of issue. Within the curving exergue side at the bottom of the coin is the face value, and the West Point "W: mint mark is also located on the obverse side.

On the reverse the design features a bald eagle soaring across a setting sun in different regions of America changing each year. Watching over our firm foundation of democracy is the bald eagle our Nation's symbol of power, courage, and freedom, which was shown in different designs between the years of 1998 and 2002 known as the "Vistas of Liberty" series. Then during the years between 2006 and 2008 the United States Mint celebrated t
1000
he three branches of government with the "Foundation of American Democracy' series.

Platinum American Eagle coins are available in four different sizes and denominations authorized by the United States Congress and backed by the United States Mint for their weight and content. The one-ounce has a diameter of 32.7mm, a thickness of 2.39mm, a weight of 1.0005 troy ounce, and contains one troy ounce of pure .9995 fine platinum with a face value of $100, the highest face value of any American coin ever produced and recently priced at $2,299.95.

The half-ounce platinum American Eagle coin has a diameter of 27mm, a thickness of 1.75mm, a weight of 0.5003 troy ounce, and contains a half-ounce of pure platinum, and has a face value of $50. The quarter-ounce platinum coin has a diameter of 22mm, a thickness of 1.32mm, a weight of 0.2501 troy ounce, and contains a quarter-ounce of pure platinum, and has a face value of $25. The tenth-ounce platinum coin has a diameter of 16.5mm, a thickness of .95mm, a weight of 0.10005 troy ounce, and contains a tenth-ounce of pure platinum and has a face value of $10.

For anyone wishing to diversify their investment portfolio platinum American Eagles may just be the ideal way. They will provide any collector with the means to add balance and stability to any well-rounded investment portfolio.

May 23 -Platinum rose 0.3 to $1,152.00 an ounce on Friday, up from its quote late on Thursday of $1,148.50, while palladium finished at $231.00 an ounce, with no change from the previous finish as investors looked again toward precious metals as a currency hedge against the falling dollar.

Investors are currently driving prices upwards on platinum, in response to the unstable economy here in the United States, and the continuing lack of growth in most traditional investment options, including stocks, bonds and real estate. As Platinum has a number of uses in both industrial markets and in the production of fine jewellery, it is the potential demand for platinum for within the auto industry that truly gives the precious metal the potential for long-term gains.

Almost 50 percent of the platinum produced today is purchased for use in the manufacturing of environmentally friendly high-efficiency emission reduction automobile-catalytic converters, which are crucial in reducing CO2 emissions. This demand for platinum in this upcoming growth sector could cause it to see future growth as a precious metals commodity.
