Question by CHC: American Platinum Eagle...Is cleaning ok?
i have a 1/10 oz american platinum eagle that was touched by me out of curiosity. will it stain? i washed my hands with hot water and soap before touching it.

Best answer:

Answer by Taiping
If it was handled by the edges like you are supposed too it should be okay. Coin gloves are a good buy and can save a lot of grief. Cleaning it is out of the question. Keep an eye on it to see if your finger print shows up if you handled the coin improperly. If you only handled it for a very short time it should be okay.

What do you think? Answer below!

Platinum Eagles continue to soar in popularity among those looking to diversify their portfolio into precious metals or rare coins. They are recognized worldwide due to their status as the certified platinum bullion coin of the United States. These stunning and uncommon platinum coins are extremely sought after as they offer buyers an easy manner to add physical platinum to a precious metals portfolio that's diversified into precious metals. First issued in 1997 after being authorized by Congress the previous 12 months, they remain the exclusive investment grade platinum bullion coins to be issued by the United States Mint. Imprinted on all American Eagles is the coin's face value, which is displayed in U.S. dollars and in that way making the coin's legal tender. It may be attention-grabbing to make note of the fact that the 1-ounce bullion coin displays a one-hundred dollar denomination, making it the larges face value to ever be displayed on a coin produced by the United States Mint.

Whereas the face value that's displayed on the coin is mostly simply symbolic in nature, it does in reality give confirmation to the validity, which is extraordinarily essential as they're fully guaranteed by the American Government by way of their weight, platinum content and purity of .9995%. Additionally, the Mint provides silver and gold bullion coins to enthusiasts and precious metals investors as part of it's stable of investment quality bullion coins. Platinum bullion is definitely far rarer than gold, making it the number one choice of many longtime collector's and individuals who have experience in investing in precious metals.

Like the Silver and Gold American Eagles, Platinum Eagle Coins are produced by the United states mint through it's licensed community of accepted precious metals sellers and never straight to the general public. These dealers then open the marketplace for the general public to purchase them on a wide level, for so long as the coin stays available.

Unlike the regular bullion variations, the United states mint has made the collectible proof edition of the Platinum Eagle Coin available on the market for the general public ever since the collection began. Every denomination was produced to be sold individually, and also as part of a group of 4 coins. Starting in the inaugural year of it's issuance in 1997, a incredibly popular set containing one each of the one-ounce Platinum, Gold and Silver Eagles.

A year after that initial release, the proof version of the Platinum Eagle began a tradition that continues to this day, as the Platinum Eagle's reverse design was modified on a yearly basis.

Also, for a relatively short time period from beginning in 2006 and running through to 2008, an uncirculated version of the coin made strictly for enthusiasts was supplied by the United States Mint. These bullion coins have been also made available directly to the general public, as either a set of all four denominations all together, or on the market separately. They are considerably different from the standard bullion edition as the 'W' West Point mint mark is displayed along with using a reverse design that is changed on a yearly schedule, just like the pattern of the release of the proof version of the platinum eagle.

First off i started collecting 6 months ago and have acquired coins from a Morgan to Seated liberty half to silver eagle, presidential dollar, commemoratives, etc. I purchased my first gold coin a 2008 $5 buffalo graded by ANACS in SP 70(satin) Now i am looking to purchase a $10 platinum eagle and have narrowed it down to a 2008 NGC coin. I am aware that these coins come in MS 69/ MS 70 with a regular label or the E.R. I like the idea of early release but would like to have a MS 70 grade. Looking at PCGS price grade a 1997 $10 in MS 70 is listed at $7,000. The value of a 1997 $10 in MS 69 is $145 so this brings me to believe that i am much better off purchasing a 70 grade. (tho they did not offer E.R. in 1997) I am looking at this from a collectors viewpoint and would like to say that i own a $7,000 coin (i am aware this may not appreciate in all cases) would paying $300 dollars for a regular 2008 MS 70 be overpaying by too much, this seems to suit my price range as i know platinum is around a G/ounce. i am trying to decide between the regular label MS 70 or an E.R. 69 please share anything advice/comment you may have. 21/male. thank you
